The Next Step: Hockey

Well, my summer job fell through, so here I am, tackling hockey. The project I’m currently working on is somewhat basic, but it builds off of the research that a bunch of other teams are working on. I’m working on addressing hockey’s pace of play, specifically in the 3rd period, and asking a fundamental question: does the ubiquitous playstyle of sitting back actually benefit a team with a lead in the final third of the game? My hypothesis is no; there’s a great paper by Micah Blake McCurdy that explores the flow of it throughout a game, and I’m looking to expand upon it a bit.

So far, I’ve written about 5 pages of a paper on this, and will publish it here when it’s fully done.
